The 2017 National Agriculture Fair (NAF) was officiated by His Excellency Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi on 16th August, 2017 at Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds in Blantyre. The event was held up to 19th August, 2017 under the theme “Unleashing Full Agriculture Potential: The Role of Markets.” Different development partners, Civil Society Organisations, private sectors and farmers among others showcased their various exhibitions in line with the theme during this period.The 2017 National Agriculture Fair (NAF) was officiated by His Excellency Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi on 16th August, 2017 at Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds in Blantyre. The EU funded programmes and projects in the sectors of Sustainable Agriculture, Nutrition and Food Security and Trade, participated in the event with facilitation and coordination by the EU Delegation (EUD) to Malawi and the National Authorising Office Support Unit (NAO SU). Different partners showcased their exhibitions under the EU pavilion during this period, and these included Farm Income Diversification Programme (FIDP II), United Purpose, Malawi Mangoes, Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), German Development Cooperation (GIZ), Foundation for Irrigation and Sustainable Development (FISD), Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI), Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH), Comitato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo de Popoli (CISP), Oxfam – Catholic Health Commission (CHC), Save the Children and Malawi Enterprise Productivity Enhancement (MEPE).The displays in general had a consistent development story on the whole marketing chain in line with the theme, and this included some interventions on production, agro-processing, marketing and utilisation towards poverty reduction. Related banners on respective brief institutional background and their interventions were installed by almost all the partners including the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development – Department of Irrigation, EUD and NAO SU.
