Some farmers in Balaka have set up Tiyanjane Bakery, thanks to FIDP

The overall objective of Farm Income Diversification Programme II (FIDP II) is to contribute to the reduction of poverty in Malawi. Its purpose is to improve the livelihoods of rural households through conservation of natural resources, diversification of agricultural production and increased agribusiness.

Some of its expected results are sustainable management of natural resources, improved post-harvest storage and processing, increased and diversified smallholder agriculture productivity and promotion of income generation agribusiness initiatives.

One of the initiatives to be promoted under KULIMA

KULIMA is a programme designed to promote farming in Malawi. “KULIMA” is a Chichewa word which is a National language in Malawi, and it means farming in English.

The overall objective of this programme is to promote sustainable agricultural growth to increase incomes, employment and food security in Malawi in the context of changing climate.

Rights to pieces of land like these have to be protectedThe general objective of Land Governance for Sustainable Agriculture Project is to improve livelihoods of the population, particularly in the rural areas of Malawi, through sustainable agricultural development.

The project has two components. The first component aims at strengthening capacity at all levels, especially the ministry responsible for land matters (Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development), to implement land policies and laws efficiently and effectively. The second component is aimed at implementing a pilot project at local level and to ensure that smallholder farmers, especially women, have improved land rights due to responsible land governance.

The overall objective of Agriculture Sector Wide Approach (ASWAp) and Greenbelt Initiative (GBI) is to contribute to Malawi Government’s objective of poverty reduction in line with the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MGDS).

It aspires to increase agricultural productivity and food security of rural communities through improvement of systems and processes, strengthening the implementation capacities and delivery of inputs to final beneficiaries.

The initial financing agreement, amounting to €97, 843, 000, was signed in October 2012 However, in October 2013, the agreement was revised to €103, 943, 000. The period was also revised to 96 months. In April 2017, the duration was further extended to 120 months.
