
KULIMA is a programme designed to promote farming in Malawi. “KULIMA” is a Chichewa word which is a National language in Malawi, and it means farming in English.
The overall objective of this programme is to promote sustainable agricultural growth to increase incomes, employment and food security in Malawi in the context of changing climate.
The programme has three components: Increase in agricultural productivity and diversification through mainly up-scaling climate-smart agriculture technologies, agriculture value chain and business development and support to improved governance in the agriculture sector
Its Financing Agreement was co-signed by Malawi’s Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Hon. Goodall Gondwe, on 17th March 2017 in Lilongwe. That was after Koen Doen, Authorising Officer of the EDF, signed the agreement on 18 January 2017 in Brussels, Belgium on behalf of European Commission.
The programme, which falls under 11th European Development Fund (EDF), has a budget allocation of €110 million.
The programme has such other co-financing partners as Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the German Cooperation (GIZ).
