The overall objective of Farm Income Diversification Programme II (FIDP II) is to contribute to the reduction of poverty in Malawi. Its purpose is to improve the livelihoods of rural households through conservation of natural resources, diversification of agricultural production and increased agribusiness.
Some of its expected results are sustainable management of natural resources, improved post-harvest storage and processing, increased and diversified smallholder agriculture productivity and promotion of income generation agribusiness initiatives.
With a total of €23,030,600 drawn from the 10th European Development Fund (EDF), the programme’s Financing Agreement was signed by Gary Quince, European Commission Authorising Officer of the EDF, on 30 November 2009, in Brussels, Belgium.

The project is being implemented in 96 months (eight years). FIDP II is being implemented in Malawi’s 11 districts: Chitipa, Karonga, Mzimba, Nkhata Bay, Lilongwe, Salima, Nkhotakota Dowa, Balaka, Chiradzulu and Thyolo.
